A proud recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, Udit Narayan, is an Indian playback singer predominantly working in the Hindi music industry. He started his career in singing upon the encouragement of his mother, who was a folk singer. Narayan began his career in 1970 by singing Maithili and Nepali folk songs. After eight years, he moved to Bombay to study classical music and become a part of the Hindi music industry. In 1980, he was noticed by Rajesh Roshan and soon made his debut with ‘Unees-Bees’ the same year. However, it was the 1988 film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ that gave him a breakthrough in the industry and won him a Filmfare Award. During the 1990s and 2000s, he became one of the most established and popular singers and won four National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards. Narayan also worked as an actor in Nepalese movies. Later, in 2007, he appeared as a judge on ‘Indian Idol 3’. He was also seen on ‘Waar Parriwar’, a reality show, as a judge in 2008. Narayan is often invited to singing reality shows as a guest. He is the father of singer, actor, and TV host Aditya Narayan.
